The purpose of this component is to introduce and support IGAD Member States in the implementation of international best practices in the detection, prevention and countering of terrorism and to share information.

Activities:


a. Developing training materials with the collaboration of national training experts in IGAD member states in a training task force for a four-week counter terrorism course for law enforcement officials and officers.

b. Disseminating the training materials as appropriate.

c. Developing and carrying out other short courses and training seminars on the basis of a training needs assessment in each IGAD member state.

d. Collaborating with other components to arrange for training for the judiciary, on border control and other specific areas of need.

e. Organizing a series of lectures on key and relevant subjects in the region.

f. Convening an annual meeting of high-level IGAD national experts from the security, financial and diplomatic communities to share lessons learnt and provide an update on terrorist modus operandi in the region.

g. Liaising with the East African Police Chiefs Coordination Organization (EAPCCO), and other partners with relevant expertise to deliver the technical knowledge and tools necessary for resisting terrorism effectively.
