August 25, 2008 - Success against criminality largely depends on the global response and mutual co-operation between nations, Ethiopian Federal Police Director General said.
Speaking at the sub-committee meeting of the 10th East African Police Chiefs Cooperation Organization (EAPCCO) Annual General Meeting which opened in Addis Ababa, Director General Workeneh Gebeyehu said the globe has shrunk to a small village and now it is possible for resourceful criminals to have easy access to any place in the world in spite of national barriers.
Serious criminal acts such as terrorism have already claimed many cherished human lives and caused untold suffering.
We are all threatened by this deadly peril to which we must devote all our energy today, he said.
Cognizant of this fact has led nations to come together to joined hands to formulate appropriate strategies that could enhance joint efforts to curb the impeding threats of the evils of criminality.
Sekaganda Bernard, Permanent Coordinating Committee (PCC) for his part said sub-committee meetings are to deliberate and agree on a number of issues all related to resolutions made by the council of Police chiefs at the last year general meeting.
The meetings are to address issues such as joint police operations against cross-border and organized crimes, regional anti-crime projects, training programs for coming year, and monitor the status of signed agreements.
