August 29, 2008 – The Peace and Security Council of the African Union meeting on 28th August discussed the scourge of terrorism on the African continent and stressed the importance to the fight on terrorism of fully implementing all continental and international counter terrorism instruments including the 1999 OAU Convention and its Protocol. The Council called on the AU Commission to expedite the development of the African Anti Terror Model Law, and called on the AU Center for Study and Research on Terrorism (ACSRT/CAERT) to intensify its activities and to identify training and equipment projects that would enhance member states’ capacity.
