October 2, 2008 - ICPAT is carrying out a training needs assessment for Djibouti with th eobjective of contributing to building the capacity of personnel and institutions responsible for countering terrorism. The Senior Training Coordinator of ICPAT, Commander Abebe Muluneh is expected to meet with officials in the Ministry of Justice, the Police and the National Gerndarmerie to discuss their needs in this area. ICPAT has so far been concentrating on delivering a four week long counter terrorism course for law enforcement officers and officials in IGAD member states. The course has been provided to Uganda, Somalia, Sudan and Ethiopia and is due to be run in 2009 in Djibouti and Kenya. From training needs assessments carried out in a number of other countries, it has become clear that there are numerous specific training needs which could be met through shorter and more focused courses. The assessment being carried out in Djibouti is expected to bring to the fore the requirements of that country at this time. The assessments will feed into the ICPAT planning process for training initiatives to be carried out in 2009 some of which would be tailor made for the different countries themselves.
