January 30, 2009 - Ethiopia and Denmark have agreed to cooperate to enhance African security during a meeting held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on Thursday on the eve of the African Union summit which opens at the weekend.
During the talks on cooperation were Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi and Danish Minister of Foreign Affairs, Per Stig Moller, who arrived in the Ethiopian capital to attend the African Union summit.
On the agenda were discussions that touched on the current situation in the Horn of Africa, mainly in the current peace making efforts in Somalia.
Meles told the Danes that ensuring lasting peace and stability in Somalia was crucial to preventing the global problem of piracy in the waters of the Somali coast.
And the best way to stop the piracy and instability in Somalia was to stabilize the country which has been without central government for the past 18 years, he added.
The premier called on the international community to provide the necessary support to ensure that durable peace returns to Somalia.
Moller said Denmark was working as member of a task force established by the European Union to stop piracy.
