The Counter terrorism course for 25 Ethiopian law enforcement officials and officers has been underway at the Police University College in Sendafa, 40 kilometers east of Addis Ababa.

The four week course offered by ICPAT includes subjects such as:

  • Counter terrorism strategies in the IGAD region
  • Theories and typologies of terrorism
  • Migration-related transnational crimes
  • International legal instruments against terrorism
  • International mutual legal assistance
  • Community policing
  • Crisis management, threat risk and vulnerability assessment
  • Terrorist profiling
  • Border security management
  • Control over terrorism financing and money laundering
  • Role of INTERPOL in preventing terrorism
  • Interdepartmental Cooperation
  • Intelligence operations and surveillance
  • Crime case management
  • Interviewing and interrogation
  • Detection of deception
  • Terrorism crime scene management
  • Respect for human rights
  • Pre incident, incident and post incident measures

INTERPOL, the International Organization for Migration, Scotland Yard, Institute for Security Studies, regional and national experts joined ICPAT staff in providing the training for the officers who came from the Federal Police and 10 regional states of Ethiopia.

This is the fourth time that the course is being delivered following similar training for officers from Uganda, Somalia and Sudan.
