Mogadishu — Masked gunmen robbed a Somali money-wiring company near the capital Mogadishu on Tuesday, independent sources tell Garowe Online.

The incident took place at the office of Hodan Global money-wiring company, located at Elasha Biyaha area south of Mogadishu, which is controlled by Hizbul Islam insurgents.

"The office accountant was forced to say where the money is kept after masked gunmen put a gun on his head," said a source.

A businessman confidentially told Garowe Online that the gunmen "drove a small car and escaped with 15,000 U.S. dollars."

Hizbul Islam rebel chief Sheikh Hassan Dahir Aweys lives in Elasha Biyaha area and Hizbul Islam militia commanders have rejected rumors that their gunmen were responsible for the robbery.
