24 February 2011 - The Validation Workshop on the “Somalia Inland Strategy and Action Plan to Counter and Prevent Piracy 2010 – 2015” was conducted in Djibouti on 22-23 February 2011.  The Workshop, chaired by Mr. Yufnalis Okubo - the Acting Director of Peace and Security Division of IGAD,

was opened by welcoming participants from the IGAD Secretariat, ICPAT, Steering Committee members of ICPAT consisting the IGAD member states: Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, Sudan and Uganda, partner communities: Canada, Denmark, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Spain, and Sweden, other stakeholders: COMESA, EAC, EAPPCCO/INTERPOL, the European Union, and the UNDP.  The research report commissioned by ICPAT was presented by the consultants and different theme discussions were conducted based on the report presented.

The meeting was concluded by agreeing to incorporate the comments and suggestions made by the discussion and to present the amended report to the IGAD Council of Ministers for approval. (End)
